Our jeans are made of denim and originate from the city of Genoa, with a history dating back to the 1860s. The name jeans comes from the French town of Serge de Nîmes.
This popular fabric was originally made to provide durable, hard-wearing clothing for workers in the United States, and later became famous through some of the big jeans brands. Jeans were the exact opposite of a fashion item, worn only by the 'poor'. In the beginning, it was a loose and assertive garment, without a skinny fit or straight cut. James Dean first appeared in jeans on the then black and white screen in the 1950s. Jeans were a symbol of youth and rebellion. But it still took time for a real breakthrough.
By the 1960s, jeans had become increasingly fashionable and were finally recognised as a fashion item in the 1970s. From then on, different styles emerged. The wide-leg, straight, flared and cropped jeans became a staple in every wardrobe. The original taupe blue was soon followed by a variety of shades, including black, grey and 'camel'.
Since then, jeans have become fashionable and a must-have in every wardrobe for both men and women.
However, it's a misconception that jeans can only be a casual piece and that they only really suit teenagers.
